Half a Meme
What is half of seven? The fun half, or whatever I say it is. This is the closest I’ll probably ever get to doing a meme.
The rules:

friends, or if someone else already took dibs, then tag some unsuspecting
strangers.
Of these rules: I choose to observe 1, 2, 3 of the 7 of
#3, and not four or five. To those
who would observe I seem to have too much free time, ’tain’t true—hence the
absence of real blogs. Sorry. Will try to remedy the situation soon,
but the operative word is DEADLINES.
Seven random facts about me:
1. I once called Stan Getz a schmuck, to his face. (Long story.)
2. I own a baseball signed by the 1965 World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. My brother and I were cleaning a house for a colleague of my father’s, and I found this thing on a windowsill. I looked closely at it, and there the names were—Sandy Koufax, Frank Howard, Ron Fairly, Claude Osteen, Don Drysdale, Willy Davis… I brought it to my Dad’s friend, who was Egyptian—he’d bought the house, so the ball was his property. He looked at the ball with great distaste, and then had an idea, and said… “Do you want this thing? Take it! It is yours!”
3. The hardest pieces I have ever played are Stravinsky’s Three Scenes from Petrushka, the six Grandes Études de Paganini by Liszt, and the American premiere of Gyorgy Kurtag’s chamber piano concerto …quasi una fantasia. In all cases, I should have known better.
4. In England in June, 1976, I met E.L.O. backstage at the Portsmouth Guildhall, and they did “Do Ya” (at that time just an old Move song, not yet remade) live, because I asked.
5. I have been reamed in print. (“Atrociously played”…NO MORE details forthcoming.)
6. I once performed music of my own composition at the San Francisco Opera House. (NO MORE details forthcoming, but it was not the concert of no. 5.)
7. My favorite remarks I have ever received on teaching evaluations are “If he thinks he’s so great, he should get a job at a school for music” and “He encourages us to express his opinions.”

Maybe its a Pete thing, for I too, say PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! .. do tell. I have always heard that he (Getz) was one of that list (Miles, Mingus, Rich, etc. ) who were as ugly as there music might be beautiful. Not so "Sweet Rain", after all.
